I'd call it premeditated murder

Could it/should it be considered murder. Is it any different then choosing not to feed your child?

Thing is, I think it’s more like the “manslaughter” sign is hiding behind the “protecting your kids” sign. It’s not like they are outright trying to kill their kids. Only a few awful people willingly do that. It’s a fatal confusion they have about what the data represents. It’s tragic, but I think that is what they truly think is right... although from any rational thinker, it’s definitely not a good thing.
